For years, we’ve believed that lampshades belonged on the nightstand in a cosy nook beside your bed.Come 2016, that all changed when the lampshade took a new form and found its way into our closets. Popularly known as the lampshading fashion trend.

Simply put, lampshading is wearing a pair of over-the-knee boots with a broad hemline that hits above or right at the top of the shoes. The Kardashian-Jenner ladies are the most frequent committers of this new trend, pairing their tall boots with sweatshirt dresses and oversize sweaters. But Kate Moss is also a fan, and the trend technically first appeared on the F/W 15 runways, when French brand Vetements sent a runway down the catwalk in the look.

Lampshading: The New Celeb Style Trend

According to PopSugar, the trend could be traced back to Kate Moss a lá 2013. Who What Wear wrote that the trend also technically first appeared on the FW15 runway at the Vetements show.

While attempting to trace the origins of this dressing phenomenon can get a bit nebulous (especially when one considers the miniskirts and sweater dresses worn with tall suede boots circa the 1960s or early 1970s), one thing is certain: the trend is dominating the newsfeeds of many a young Hollywood starlet.
